Leonard Buildings and Truck Accessories, based in North Carolina, is a company with a rich history spanning 65 years. Best known for selling premium building materials, farm and garden buildings as well as providing a huge range of truck accessories, Leonard has always been at the forefront of its industry.

However, as the company grew, so did its communication challenges. With employees spread across multiple locations, many of whom without access to work emails or devices, ensuring consistent and timely messaging became a significant hurdle.

As part of their drive to connect with their deskless workforce, Leonard chose ScreenCloud to power their digital signage across multiple sites and locations.

The challenge: Reaching every employee

For Leonard’s Chief HR Officer, Kim Reynolds, one of the biggest challenges was finding an effective way to communicate with employees who didn’t have access to traditional channels like email. Whether it was open enrollment information, safety updates, or company events, ensuring that every employee was informed and engaged was a persistent struggle.

“From a manufacturing aspect, since implementing ScreenCloud, the results have been more employee engagement. Employees reach out to us more, they're more engaged in our activities and events,” says Reynolds. The ability to share updates in real time, without relying on email or printed notices, was a game-changer.

Simple setup, scalable impact

One of the standout benefits of ScreenCloud for Leonard was its ease of implementation. Chris Martin, Senior IT Director at Leonard highlighted the benefits, pointing out that setting up was quick, simple and required zero technical knowhow, “We’ve been able to deploy these things at scale very quickly. At the store level, when they've received the devices, all they really have to do is plug a HDMI cable into the device and it's ready to go,” says Martin.

This straightforward setup meant Leonard could deploy ScreenCloud to locations across the company, rapidly setting up their network of real-time communication tools without the need for technical expertise.

Maximizing employee engagement with dynamic content

Beyond just displaying messages, Leonard has found creative ways to engage employees using ScreenCloud. One key feature highlighted by Audrey Price, Leonard’s Employee Relations Specialist, is the easy integration with Canva.

There are various tools for content creation with ScreenCloud. However by using the Canva app integration, Price was able to streamline the process by keeping everything on one link, ensuring that slides rotated seamlessly without manual updates.

This feature has been especially useful for:

  • Employee recognition – Celebrating achievements and acknowledging team members.
  • Event promotions – Keeping everyone informed about upcoming company activities.
  • Real-time updates – Instantly notifying employees about operational changes, product updates, and safety protocols.

As Kim Reynolds points out, “The structure at Leonards means that our audience includes the manufacturing floor, right up to customer facing retail. So for a company such as ours, we’re cascading through multiple lines of communication that are really changing behavior”.

Driving culture and business success

For Leonard, ScreenCloud is more than just a communication tool—it’s a driver of company culture and operational efficiency. Kim Dresser, HR Director for Manufacturing, emphasizes how small details, like ensuring everyone knows about an upcoming event, can significantly impact workplace morale and engagement.

Kim Reynolds agrees,  “For instance, we’re having a Cinco de Mayo celebration, and everybody knows about it at the same time. It’s small things like that that really drive culture. It drives employee engagement.”

Additionally, ScreenCloud plays a vital role in critical business functions such as open enrollment notifications and product knowledge training for retail employees. By centralizing and simplifying information distribution, Leonard has been able to enhance productivity, ensure compliance, and improve overall business operations.

Why Leonard recommends ScreenCloud

When asked if she would recommend ScreenCloud, Kim Reynolds doesn’t hesitate. “For so many reasons. It’s probably impossible to say them all. First of all, I don’t know of any other solution that gives you real-time communication with your employees.”

With benefits spanning HR, operations, sales, and culture-building, Leonard’s experience with ScreenCloud highlights just how powerful digital signage can be for organizations looking to enhance internal communication.

For any company struggling with dispersed teams, engagement challenges, or outdated communication methods, Leonard’s success story serves as a powerful testament to the impact of ScreenCloud.
